squash!

I've been playing squash with Ch. for a few days and it's a lot of fun! Highly recommended extremely exhausting sport for everyone. Bring it on!

Ah! I'm also considering getting rid of some of my machines at home and by a decent dual core setup. I am amazed at the power consumption of the Pentium D series, they guzzle down electricity like you and I breath air! AMD has clearly the advantage in terms of perfomance at the moment, and I think I will go with one of their systems. I used to have a 1.2GHz Thunderbird that was a beauty, and at work I have experienced how fast Opterons are in comparison to Itaniums, so my next system will be AMD. Good night everyone...

hilarious ...

My friend M and I had one of the most weird conversations with a taxi driver ever. Suddenly the driver shoots "What blood type are you?" After a brief moment of silence (I think both of us were considering the possibility of vampires taking over the Singapore taxi business) she answers and the guy nods his head sagely and says: "You should sleep well then". Excuse me? "Yes, you should go to bed early". Huh? "U-hu, your blood type needs a lot of rest"... Hilarious...

konfabulous !

This week, thanks to Mr. AE I have been introduced to the wonders of the Konfabulator. Now I have my desktop full of those little widgets that I had always wished existed!!

I have also removed FC3 from my linux system and installed Scientific Linux v4.1 instead. The installation process was flawless and in 30 minutes I was up and running. This may be the best linux distro I have ever tried. Well, with Arch linux, although their objectives are completely different (SL focuses on reliability, while arch on sheer speed and cutting edge apps).

a reasonably good day...

I managed to reduce the storage requirements of my code by a factor 4 and the execution time by almost 30% using some fancy manipulation of the equations I solve. Not bad...

Yesterday I managed to run another 7.25km, a good day too. And this is a long weekend because next tuesday is National Day in Singapore, so life looks good.

I may be trying out a new linux distro, Sientific Linux, which is based on an Enterprise distribution and looks very good on paper. I'll keep you posted on the developments...

warning! dangerously bad movie ahead!

Jeeez... Remember that movie I mentioned in the last post? Stealth? Well, do your best to forget it exists. No, seriously. I was expecting a regular action movie, but this was horrible stuff. One of the actors almost managed to prove by induction that all numbers are prime ( you know, like in the joke: 1 is prime, 2 is prime, 3 is prime, ... ). Then there were all the typical navy stereotypes. And then came the spectacular instantaneous 180 degree rotation of a fighter plane ( and I am not talking upside-down, but front-to-bloody-back ) doing mach N ( where N is a large integer ). But hey, who cares about the laws of physics? Obviously not the main character, who later on finds himself flying without a harness in a supersonic jet. Bah, what's a bump or two in the head when you are a crack pilot in a hollywood movie? Nobody will notice the speech impairement since you are only supposed to look good anyway... Avoid watching this at all costs.

On the bright side of things I managed to make some time today to run 7.5km, so not everything was bad.
